About the Author:

Dennis Ortenburger is like most other automobile enthusiasts. He is as excited today about certain cars as he was when he first made their acquaintance.

His passion for one of them, the original Lotus Elite, extended to owning and restoring these cars to writing books about them. Dennis bought the Elite he owns to this day in 1965 and besides putting nearly 170,000 miles on the car he’s collected huge files on the Elite’s history. These include period and contemporary road tests and race results. There is a file containing nothing but Lotus factory documents which range from press releases to maintenance schedules. There is another that contains factory sales brochures as well as period literature used by several of the early dealers and distributors. Included in all this is a collection of hundreds of period and contemporary photographs of racing Elites, cars under going restoration, special cars, one-offs and those with unique modifications.

The author has the advantage of having had friendships with many of the principles of the Elite’s history whether it was in the design, sales, racing or manufacturing aspects. Their conversations and correspondence give Dennis an especially in-depth insight into the car.

Despite three books and numerous articles in the enthusiast’s press about the Lotus Elite the author felt there was still more to tell. Most of this is probably of interest to only the more dedicated Elite enthusiast- the ones who lust after every conceivable bit of information about this remarkable car. The Lotus Elite Journal is being offered especially for them.
